Highlights from ITU-T SG15, Montreal

The AOC Testbed team from IIT Madras, actively participated in the ITU-T Study Group 15 meeting held in Montreal, Canada, from 29 June to 10 July 2026.

The team contributed to international standardization activities in multi-core fibres (MCF), hollow-core fibres (HCF), Raman amplifiers, optical fibre splicing, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Key outcomes included the initiation of a new Technical Report on Hollow-Core Fibre Technologies and Systems (GSTR-HCF), acceptance of proposals related to WC-MCF characterization and inter-core crosstalk measurements, and contributions towards the revision of ITU-T Recommendation G.665 on Raman amplifiers.

Another significant achievement was the approval of the revision of ITU-T Recommendation L.400 to include splicing considerations for MCF, with Prof. Deepa Venkitesh appointed as Editor for this standardization activity.

These achievements highlight IIT Madras's growing contribution to global optical communication standards and next-generation communication technologies.
