Objectives

  • Demonstration of 56Gbaud + Pol Multiplexing + 16QAM + 4 (comb) lines corresponding to data rates > 1 Tbps using a single laser, for distances ~ 320 km - with four spans, each of length 80 km.

  • Development of optimal digital signal processing algorithms for achieving the above.

  • Demonstration of optical dispersion healers

  • Demonstration of low-noise optical amplifiers

Deliverables

  • D1 : Metro-type optical link with four-spans, 320 km with inline amplifiers with data rates of > 1 Tbps, with comb lines. Precoding/Index modulation  schemes for increasing the spectral efficiency of legacy networks and multi-core networks.

  • D2: [Indigenous technology development] Packaged mid-span spectral inverter using SOAs/Highly nonlinear fibers with penalty < 3 dB for DSP-free dispersion compensation for 1 Tbps/wavelength over four spans (80 km each).

  • D3 : [Indigenous technology development] Packaged parametric amplifier with a gain of at least 10 dB and a noise figure of 3 dB.

  • D4 : High capacity testing of BharatNet link
